"I had increased my triathlon training to 12 hours per week but was struggling to fit in social events as well and felt fatigued. I am a physiotherapist and have a background in sports science, so I wanted a coach who uses current science and training techniques to help.
After about 2 months at this increased training, I had become so fatigued, I needed two weeks off training and that was when I contacted Alan Smeets.
I completed a cycling lactate test with a friend at Nottingham Trent University and then Alan used this data to plan my cycling. The power was slightly lower than what I was aiming for, suggesting I was probably doing too much before. He also lowered my target heart rate for my running as well.
I was able to complete training weeks and still have energy left over for socialising as well. In June 2024, a triathlon I entered had to be changed to a run-bike-run due to unsafe sea conditions. I did the 5km run at the start in my third fastest time and felt like I wasn’t even trying. I then went on to complete the hilly and windy bike course with my highest normalised power for a bike section and still had energy left for the 10km run.
I would highly recommend working with Alan. The level of detail is amazing. Alan used the latest sports science and training sessions used by professionals but also gave a holistic approach and ensured that I enjoyed my training and remembered what else is important in life."
