Jelle Vanendert starts in the Vuelta

Written by

Saturday August 22 2015. Today starts in Puerto Banús the Tour of Spain with a team time trial over 7.4 kilometres to Marbella. Jelle Vanendert takes part in this race for his team Lotto Soudal. The Vuelta lasts three weeks and finishes on September 13 in Madrid. For Jelle this is his fourth participation in the Vuelta.

The Vuelta of 2015 counts 3356 kilometres, of which 7.4 kilometres  of team time trial and 38.7 kilometres in an individual time trial. The riders have to climb 45 classified mountains. One of the climbs has a gradient of 30%. The team time trial doesn't count for the general classification because the track along the beach would be too dangerous. The riders start on a wooden pier and then have to ride over a boulevard that is full of sand.

Jelle has a good preparation towards the Vuelta. Previously he competed, after a few training camps, in the Classica San Sebastian, the Tour de Wallonie, and the Tour of Denmark. There are some stages that could be interesting for Jelle, beside that he will assist his teammates who have GC ambitions.

The contenders in this edition of the Vuelta are very strong. Among them are Chris Froome, winner of the Tour de France in 2015, Vicenzo Nibali, Fabio Aru, Mikel Landa, Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana, Tejay Van Garderen, and Joaquim Rodriguez will participate.
